Advertising and public relations are similar and may even be the same. In advertising, campaigns are produced to convince consumers to patronize or use products or services. These are then takes the airwaves, the radio, print and other forms of mass media. The advertisement is trying to influence public perception on the product.
Management of product perception, brochures, speeches and projection of positive company image are the main goals of public relations. In many instances, public relations and advertising tasks overlap because of their similarity. Both fields require strong people skills and close association with often difficult to work with and demanding clients. Both careers also have high stress levels because of the deadlines, late nights and weekends spent working.
