Advertising and Public Relations

post3.JPGAdvertising and public relations are similar and may even be the same. In advertising, campaigns are produced to convince consumers to patronize or use products or services. These are then takes the airwaves, the radio, print and other forms of mass media. The advertisement is trying to influence public perception on the product.

Management of product perception, brochures, speeches and projection of positive company image are the main goals of public relations. In many instances, public relations and advertising tasks overlap because of their similarity. Both fields require strong people skills and close association with often difficult to work with and demanding clients. Both careers also have high stress levels because of the deadlines, late nights and weekends spent working.

Keeping your brain alive

While the potential of the human mind is theoretically limitless, there will be times when you feel drained and burned out, and in a sort of mental block – unable to generate any good ideas. To help you out, here a few things that might help refresh your gray matter:

1. A GOOD night’s sleep.
The recommended sleep is about 8-10 hours, but we realize that advertising is a dynamic business, you might not always get the hours you need. Just make sure that you get some rest in between your work so you brain has a chance to refresh itself.

2. A glass of water.
Not getting enough fluids slows down blood flow, making your brain function at a less than optimum rate. Don’t wait until you are thirsty, and drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day.

3. Expose yourself to new ideas.
Keep up with the times and explore whats in NOW.

Never Fading but Merely Evolving – Advertising

AdsAs long as there is a product to be sold, there will always be advertising which goes after primal senses for them to be effective. From the eyes, ears and even taste, they all have to be satisfied for an ad campaign to be successful. You can have all the best photographers and graphics artists producing the best pictures money can buy, but without proper presentation, it’s merely still a picture. A successful ad artist conducting a campaign takes into account visibility, the ability to attract attention and instill interest and then come up with a tag line that says it all.
Think Nike with “Just Do It”, and you’ll get an idea of a successful ad campaign. Those three words along with seemingly bland photos combined by an artist produces music selling products with just three words. Or the Coke bottle with lettering in flowing ribbon style, now that’s advertising!

Advertising

Advertising is not as exciting as an NBA game but it certainly is growing steadily as an industry and it can provide you with a career that is financially rewarding as well as fun. This is primarily because advertising involves a little bit of everything. It combines art with creativity, simple mathematics, psychology, marketing approach and media. As a writer, the possibility of ending up writing for Hollywood films is not that far. The realm of advertising and the internet makes it hard to predict what will be in demand the next few years. In advertising, your deviant behavior is often rewarded. Think crazy ideas and you get appreciated. Most importantly, you certainly will not be bored by it. Advertising is a dynamic job which you will appreciate if you have a deviant but creative mind.
